Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 4124.0 (#3): Activation key issues -- check localization

CNET staff

We continue to receive reports from a number of readers indicating problems with activation keys for Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 4124.0 being rejected, often with the message:

"This activation key is not valid for this version of Parallels Desktop"

We previously recommended that users ensure that they typing the correct letters, which may be indistinguishable because of the font used to deliver trial activation keys. In many cases, simply copying and pasting works.

It now appears that in some cases, the issue is due to a mismatch in the localized copy of Parallels and the country-coded activation key. In other words, a US version of Parallels Desktop will not work with a UK-based activation key and vice versa.

MacFixIt reader Francis Wood received the following reply from Parallels support:

"It is possible, that you have downloaded US upgrade having UK version installed. The keys are not compatible between different localizations. If that is the case, please contact our sales@parallels.com to help you."
