OSL Handler

OSL Handler

CNET staff
The previously posted ObjectSupportLib Check utility has been updated and given a new name. It is now called OSL Handlerand you can get it here in the Download Library.

OSL Handler is an AppleScript applet which, after determining that you're running Mac OS 8.0 or later, searches your Extensions folder for a copy of ObjectSupportLib and, if found, offers you-the user-the options of deleting it (recommended), moving it to the Trash, or leaving it alone. It is intended to solve the problem whereby an application's installer places a copy of OSL in your System Folder (without you realizing it) and thereby precipitating the problems that this is know to cause (see previous postings a and b).

I know there are other ways of accomplishing this same goal - such as linking OSL to Appearance Manager and saying that they cannot both be installed at the same time. You can also try the Purge OSL utility. OSL Handler is just one alternative.
