106271: Mac OS X 10.0: Software Update 1.3.1, 10.0.1 Update, and Epson Printer Driver Update Provide Feature Enhancement, Address Issues purports to describe what is new in these updates, but actually offers very little details.

It does state: "Software Update 1.3.1 includes enhancements to the Mac OS X Software Update engine, including: resumable downloads; ability to work with proxy connections; and interface improvements."

It also confirms: "This update may also be obtained from Apple Software Updates." Specific links for the< various downloads can be found in these TIL articles:

    • 75125: Mac OS X 10.0.1 Update Information and Software
    • 75126: Software Update 1.3.1 Information and Software
    • 75127: Epson Print Drivers Information and Software

Note: We took a brief look at these disk images. Each contains a single .pkg file. Using Show Package Contents to peek inside the files confirms that they are similar to the receipt files, except that they now include the critical .paz.gz archives (see previous coverage). Opening the archive for Software Update, for example, confirms that it installs just two files: the new Software Update application and the new Preferences pane.

106274: Mac OS X 10.0: Remote Login and OpenSSH in 10.0.1 Update confirms: "After the Mac OS X 10.0.1 Update, your computer uses OpenSSH for remote login instead of telnet, rlogin, and rsh services." If you still want to use telnet, the article provides a work-around; it requires using Terminal.

106269: Mac OS X 10.0: Software Update Privileges and Password Issue confirms what we previously posted: "If your Admin user password contains spaces, you may encounter privileges/permissions 'errors' when installing software."

106273: Mac OS X 10.0: Does Not Label or Sort by Label states: "You can select Label in View Options, but you cannot sort by Label or label items in the Mac OS X Finder. If you try to sort by Label, the computer will actually sort by Name."

106276: Mac OS X 10.0: Classic Does Not Allow Use of Software Update notes: "The Classic environment of Mac OS X does not allow use of the Mac OS 9.1 Software Update control panel, and the Mac OS X version of Software Update does not update Mac OS 9.1 system software at this time."

106277: Mac OS X 10.0: Classic Does Not Work From a UFS Disk on First Use offers a solution to the problem described in the title. It once again requires use of the Terminal utility.
