Connect to Server duplicate listings redux If you have multiple listings of the Go menu's Connect to Server command, you can eliminate them by launching Terminal and typing: <sudo rm /private/var/slp.regfile>. There is no equivalent Finder command. We have covered this solution before (see this item) and cited multiple DHCP addresses used over time as the primary cause. We mention it here again because we have also now seen the symptom in a different context: We use different manual IP addresses for the same server connected via different methods (e.g., AirPort vs. Ethernet). As a result, we often see a computer listed multiple times (one for each IP address) in the Connect to Server menu.

SANcube and OS X A SANcube FAQ states: "Will SANcube be compatible with Mac OS X? A. SANcube will be compatible with Mac OS X when it is released. At this time there are no plans to support Mac OS X Server. However, Flip Phillips discovered this is not true (MicroNet confirms this and claims the web site will be updated soon).

Update: Flip discovered: "If you have an existing, non X-treme SANcube, you can use it as a single user (non-SAN) RAID 0 under X with ATTO's ExpressStripe. If you have an X-treme version, you'll only be able to use it if you don't span the RAID volume across the busses. In either case it appears to work OK as a JBOD (just a bunch of disks)."

iDisk mounting tip If you are having any trouble mounting an iDisk from the Finder's Go menu, Glenn Pillsbury suggests giving SNAX a try. This shareware Finder alternative includes an iDisk command in its Go menu and it worked from Glenn even when the Finder option did not.

Where is Agfa? Based on the strength of its Mac OS X support (e.g. ScanWise X), we decided to buy an Agfa scanner to replace our old one. Much to our surprise, using an online search, we could not find a single U.S. dealer that carried the current models (e.g., e42 and e52). In fact, most places no longer carried any Agfa scanners at all. Anyone know why Agfa appears to have vanished from the U.S. market?

Update: Several readers report reading that Agfa decided to get out of the consumer scanner market about six months ago (at least in the U.S.). This cnet article has more details. Odd that Agfa would make no mention of this on their web page listing their scanners. Oh well.

OmniPage, ScanWise and OS X Speaking of ScanWise, we have this as yet unconfirmed report regarding ScanWise and OmniPage in OS X: Charles Maurerhm tried out the just released OmniPage Pro X. Although it worked fine in OS X, it does not appear to work with Agfa's SnapScans. Agfa supplies ScanWise for OS X and a Twain plug-in for OS9. If I put Agfa's Twain plug-in in the OmniPage's plug-in directory, then OmniPage will recognize the scanner and call ScanWise, but ScanWise will not start the scan. If I start the scan manually, ScanWise will work but it cannot be made to send it to OmniPage."
