New Apple System Profiler coming F. Harber writes: "Apple has seeded Apple System Profiler 2.6.1a6 (and Apple System Profiler 2.6b32 for Mac OS X) to developers. It's impressive. They fixed minor bugs, mostly related to OS X. But I am on a beige G3 running 9.1 and it loads twice as fast."

Deleting Same Name User's Folder in Mac OS 9.1 Affects Mac OS X 10.0 TIL article 31375 warns: "After deleting a user's folder (home folder) in Mac OS 9.1, you are unable to use Mac OS X 10.0 as that user." Although this may seem obvious and therefore easily avoided, it can happen if you try to create a user with Mac OS 9's Multiple Users that has the same name as a user in OS X.

Perl Post problem? Scott MacVie writes: "Working with Mac OS X Server, I've been trying to install a Perl script, that uses a Post command. Everything works except the information that is supposed to be posted from the Web, does not get written. Other people are reporting the same problem in this Apple Discussions thread.

Long files names in OS X A recent Ask Al item answers: "Why can't some Mac OS X native applications save a document with a name longer than 31 characters?" It notes: "Mac OS X is the first version of the Mac OS to fully support longer names. This support is throughout the OS including the Finder. Even so, supporting long names is not a rigid requirement for a native Mac OS X application. Mac OS 9 applications that have been updated to run as native Mac OS X applications need to be further modified to take full advantage of long names."
