OmniWeb and Yahoo's Groups sites: Problem and solution

CNET staff

Arne Berglund could not access Yahoo's Groups sites since updating to OmniWeb 4.1 b2: "I am prompted to login in, but the login name and password are not accepted and the login page returns immediately. The latest b4 release did not fix this problem. Other browsers are able to get in normally. Actually, neither did downgrading to 4.0.6."

In this regard, Toby Braun spotted this in the release notes for OmniWeb sneakypeek 72: "We now preserve the original order in which cookies were sent to us and send them back to the server in that same order, fixing the login problem at groups.yahoo.com." Toby adds: "You'll need to delete your cookies for yahoo.com so that OmniWeb can store the order they get set in, which is how it has to send them back for login to be successful."

Update: Herman Chan replies: "I've found that this problem also affects Internet Explorer 5.x if the cookie preferences are set to 'Ask for each site.' The solution is to delete all the Yahoo/Groups cookies and login anew." Larry Kopitnik confirms seeing this same symtpom in Explorer as well as the solution.
