Due to a variety of troubleshooting issues in both the iTunes 5.0.x and 6.0 releases, a number of users have opted to stick with earlier versions of the software, dating back to version 4.7.1.

Unfortunately, it appears that users who've decided to stick with these releases -- either 4.7.1 or 4.8 -- are now unable to access the previews for, and in some cases track listings of, iTunes Music Store albums. The store now requires iTunes 4.9 or later.

MacFixIt reader Brent Davis writes:

"As many other users have noticed, it appears that it is no longer possible to preview song tracks in the iTunes Music Store without upgrading to the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime. I am running OS 10.3.9 on a Dual 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5 with iTunes 4.8 and Quicktime 6.5.2 and all I get is a blank playlist when attempting to view or preview any songs."

A number of other version 4.7.1 and 4.8 users have reported a similar an inability to view track listings.

UPDATE: Apple has now posted a notice on its iTunes Music Store support page:

"Can't see music? If you're using iTunes 4.7 or 4.8, you need to upgrade to iTunes 4.9 or later to continue to purchase music from the iTunes Music Store."
