Updating issues As noted by a few readers, Office 2004 Service Pack 2 updater will report that it can not find the appropriate applications to update if you have used the Microsoft Language Register to enable Japanese language capability in Office 2004 applications.

One reader writes:

"Using the Language Register to set each Office 2004 application back to English will allow the updater to work. The Language Register can then be used to enable Japanese for each application again."

.Mac mail not being received Several readers are reporting problems receiving and sending .Mac e-mail through Entourage.

One reader writes:

"I upgraded my Microsoft Entourage today and have not been able to retrieve my email from my .Mac account. I tried deleting and re-adding my Mac email accounts but they always ask for my password when trying to retrieve my email. I enter the password and it says Authentication failed."

As noted yesterday in our .Mac coverage, this issue can be generally resolved by simply removing the "@mac.com" from your the username entered in your e-mail client. For instance, if your login is set as "user555@mac.com", change it to simply "user555."

Entourage attachment corruption Yesterday we noted that users are experiencing problems with corrupt attachments under the new version of Entourage. If you are experiencing this problem, make sure that you are using the latest version of the application Little Snitch (a network monitoring tool) if you have it installed. Version earlier than 1.2b5 can cause attachment issues.

"Older daemon running" message from Entourage If you receive the message "Older database daemon running," you need to quit Notifications and/or the Microsoft Database daemon before running the updater process.

In order to quit the Microsoft database daemon, select "Turn off Office Notifications" in the Entourage application menu or open Activity Monitor (located in Applications/Utilities), look for "database daemon" and choose "quit process"

Establishing delegate access MacFixIt reader Craig Matthews notes that establishing delegate access for Mac clients in Entourage 2004 requires configuration from a Windows machine running Microsoft Outlook:

"After going thru Microsoft?s own MS Office2004 for Mac Resource Kit PDF (109pages..) , I found this in the instructions to setup delegate access.

"Before a user can access and manage another person?s Exchange information by using Entourage 2004, the user must be given delegate access from the principal account holder. Delegate access can be set up and managed only by using Microsoft Outlook."

Address Books/calendars disappearing Several readers report an issue where local and IMAP-stored contact and calendar information goes missing, leaving contacts only for connected Exchange servers.

Paul Hunrichs writes:

"Did the update on my Powerbook and the Address Book in Entourage on my Computer disappeared. Only address book that remained was the one on the exchange server."

Another reader adds: " In addition to an Exchange account I have three IMAP accounts. After the upgrade, all of my contacts and all calendar items appear attached to the Exchange account. There were no contacts or calendar events that show up 'On My Computer.' I copied all the contacts from the Exchange account to 'On My Computer' so that I can address mail when in these accounts, and I guess I will do the same for the calendar items."

Fixing issues with GAL MacFixIt reader Dan Foshee reports a fix for issues with GAL browsing (also noted on the Microsoft Entourage blog) reported yesterday:

"Check to see if you have a custom search base configured > (Tools>Accounts>Your Exchange Account>Advanced: Search base). If so, try blanking it out. Did that and it worked great! Search times speeded up too."
