FWB and Mac OS 9: Apple says it will not work on a PB (FireWire) Another follow-up on the FWB and Mac OS 9 controversy (see previous item): Apple's "Late-Breaking News" TIL article (#58615) on the FireWire PowerBooks states: "FWB Hard Disk Toolkit 3.0.2 - FWB Hard Disk Toolkit 3.0.2 is not compatible with this computer. For more information, contact the software publisher." (Thanks, Steven Kortze.) We have asked FWB for a clarification on this matter. Entrega non-success Regarding yesterday's report of success with an Entrega USB-to-SCSI converter, Henry Mahncke counters: "It does not work for me with a Zip drive under Mac OS 9.02 on a iBook. Entrega tech support confirms the problem and says Apple will release a system patch within two weeks." Software Update updates browsers Wayne Holder and Neil Cuddy noted that Mac OS 9's Software Update control panel now offers to update Netscape Communicator, Internet Explorer and Outlook Express (assuming you don't have the latest version already). I guess the control panel is expanding to include anything that comes on the Mac OS CD, Apple or not. [Note: several readers report that the control panel gives an error message when you actually try to download the browser software.]
