Odds and Ends: Slow Excel v.X Macro Operation

Slow Excel macro operation Andrew Holowko reports his experience with sluggish macro execution in Excel v.X, and Microsoft's response:

"In Excel v.X, VBA based macros execute very very slowly compared to the same VBA macro being executed on Excel XP for the PCs. These same macros run very fast in OS9 and Office 98. This was demonstrated (on the phone) to a Microsoft support engineer who was able to reproduce the error by running the macro on a Mac OS-X machine and a Win 2000 PC. Microsoft then escalated the issue to their development team who admitted that VBA macros execute slowly on the Mac OS X than on the PCs. Their solution was to re-do the entire macro so that all calculations would be done on the spreadsheet level without the VBA interface."
