More reports of speedier Virtual PC with Windows XP Service Pack 2 Several readers continue to confirm speedier operation of Microsoft's Virtual PC after applying the Windows XP Service Pack 2 update:

Eric-Jan Japing writes "Though speed in general cannot be compared with what we are used to our Mac without emulation, Virtual PC does a pretty good job now after the XP Service Pack 2 has been installed, and certainly is 'snappier' than before. Wondering how things will be after the introduction of Virtual PC 7"

Meanwhile, if you're a Virtual PC user and are curious about Service Pack 2, eWeek has published an in-depth review of the nearly 300 MB update.

Problems with Photoshop 7.0.x G5 patch and Dual-2.5 GHz models MacFixIt reader Lance reports that the G5-optimization patch released by Adobe for Photoshop 7.0.x does not work properly with his newly arrived Dual 2.5 GHz PowerMac G5:

"This updater doesn't seem to work with the new Dual 2.5 GHz Power Mac G5. When we attempt to install it gives the error message that a G5 processor is required and then quits. The 7.0 to 7.0.1 update worked fine, we just cannot get the G5 update to take. It appears that it cannot ID the new 2.5 as being a G5 processor and the installer quits."

We are seeking confirmation from Adobe on this issue. If you are experiencing a similar problem with one of the new G5s, please drop us a line at late-breakers@macfixit.com.
