Plugging iPod into a different FireWire port can resolve mounting issues As noted in previous reports, simply switching the FireWire port an iPod is plugged into can resolve some mounting issues:

Mark Rhodes writes: I thought I was going to lose my mind. I have a 40G pod with the touch buttons only about 5 months old. It always worked perfectly, and suddenly I could not get it to mount on its usual Mac no matter what I did. It would sometimes mount after sitting there an hour or so, and I would try to Restore it with iPod Updater. I managed to get it to mount in iTunes once, and it was so slow I thought it would take 3 days to upload the music. I was about to send it in for service when I had the bright idea to try it on my other Mac, and it worked perfectly.

"It just got worse and worse, and it would lock up iTunes and Force Quit would not even stop it until I physically removed it from the dock, and then everything went fine. I even reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the system. And still no good. Somehow I got the further bright idea to plug it into a different firewire port and when I plugged it into Port 1 it has been working flawlessly ever since."
