Numeric keypad broken after Security update Ed Fargusson reports that Security Update 2003-08-14 broke his numeric keyboard when in number lock mode. He writes "After running the latest security update I noticed that when I use the num lock key (F5) the light comes on but nothing on the keyboard works. Also, when I connect my external USB keypad the numbers do not work but the clear, =, /, *, -, , and enter keys do." Best Buy site rejects users without cookies enabled MacFixIt reader Monty Solomon writes "The Best Buy web site now fails to load if the user rejects cookies from their site. The resulting page claims that the web site is being updated. It doesn't indicate that there is a problem with cookies and it doesn't provide access to their privacy policy. http://www.bestbuy.com/ redirects to http://www.bestbuy.com/?i=2.

Startup chime does not work If your startup chime is not functioning properly, zapping the PRAM will often resolve the problem. Zapping the PRAM can also be useful for resetting the startup chime to its original volume. In order to reset the PRAM, hold down the Command-Option-P-R keys at startup.

Mac OS 8.6 DVD booting Compatibility warning MacFixIt reader Martin Totusek writes: It is possible to install Mac OS 8.6 on a DVD-RAM volume; However, it will not be possible to boot from such a volume since booting from a DVD-RAM volume is not currently supported by [Apple] Drive Setup [version 1.7.2 shipped with Mac OS 8.6, but version 1.7.3 or higher is recomended instead] and the [Apple] CD/DVD Driver [version 1.0.1 or version 1.2.2]."
