MSNBC video request for Mac support MacFixIt reader Benjamin Robertson notes that MSNBC video currently does not support Mac OS X -- though no viable explanation for the lack of compatibility is given. He writes:

"I typically go to MSNBC for my news, and I'm constantly annoyed at the 'free video' message that appears under each clip; it's only free if you're running a windows machine. I just emailed their website support with a message asking them to please encode video for the "other" operating system as well.

'MSNBC video is unable to support the Macintosh or other operation systems.' No explanation as to why. (I encourage people) to e-mail GeneralComments@feedback.msnbc.com. Let's rock the vote for free video on MSNBC!

EyeHome 1.5 problems resolved by reverting firmware MacFixIt reader Zach reports a series of issues with the new release of EyeHome, 1.5, that can be resolved by rolling back firmware:

"I just tried out the latest software (version 1.5) and firmware for my EyeHome, and encountered the following problems: Audio does not play back for MPEG2s (MPEG Program Streams) in my Movies folder (this worked fine previously); Fast forwarding appears to be broken - Pressing the fast forward button causes 'Fast forward x1' to appear, but nothing happens. Fast forward x2 and x3 appear to be inaccessible as well. Pressing play restores playback (from where it was)

"I was able to correct all of these things by reverting back to the old software and firmware. To revert firmware:

  1. Press wrench button on main menu
  2. Navigate to wrench icon, press OK
  3. Go to firmware menu
  4. Choose to roll back firmware

To revert EyeHome software:

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Right click (ctrl-click) EyeHome preference pane and choose to remove
  3. Run installer for previous EyeHome software version (e.g. version 1.0.3) from downloaded installer or CD
