Microsoft dropping Internet Explorer for Mac support Having not updated the product in several years and allowing it to lapse on various Web standards and the technical pace set by Safari and other Mac browsers, Internet Explorer for Mac OS X will no longer be a supported product, officially, on December 31st 2005. It will no longer be available for download as of January 31st, 2006.

A statement posted to Microsoft's Mactopia Web site reads:

"In June 2003, the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit announced that Internet Explorer for Mac would undergo no further development, and support would cease in 2005. In accordance with published support lifecycle policies, Microsoft will end support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and will provide no further security or performance updates.

"Additionally, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac will no longer be available for download from Mactopia. It is recommended that Macintosh users migrate to more recent web browsing technologies such as Apple's Safari."

Conflict when using NVidia 7800 GT and 6600 LE in Quad G5 One MacFixIt reader reports on a video conflict when using the NVidia 7800 GT and 6600 LE cards simultaneously in a dual-display setup with his new Quad-core G5.

The reader writes:

"I recently received my G5 Quad with the 7800 GT card. I also have the 6600 LE as well for my palette monitor. In testing Cinema 4D OpenGL (shading) abilities, I have found that if the Viewports (working area) are on the 7800GT the screen redraw seizes. If I change the preference to software shading, all is OK.

"If I run both monitors on the 7800 GT Open GL shading is OK also All I have to do to make Open GL shading work in Cinema 4D is to move the working Viewpoints over to the 6600LE"
