Mac OS X Indexing turned on by default? A thread in the MacFixIt Forums details an issue where some users find that content indexing is enabled by default under Mac OS X 10.3.x -- a drain on system resources for those who do not use this feature.

Poster Andreas writes:

"By accident I just spotted in Get Info for my boot drive that ? Horror of Horrors! ? Indexing was ON. I checked a few sub-folders ? it was on everywhere. Luckily, 'Delete Index' in the boot drive's Get Info pane disabled indexing everywhere, so there was no tedious work to do.

If you don't use this feature, make sure it is turned off by selecting your startup volume, and accessing the "Get Info" pane from the "File" menu in the Mac OS X Finder.
