iTunes 3 Library Consolidation In order to avoid problems transferring ratings and other song information, users should perform the "consolidate library" command under the "Advanced Menu" in iTunes 3. Carl Jonard writes:

"I was able, however, to successfully keep my information intact, by setting my 'iTunes Music Library Location' to a folder on my new hard drive in the Advanced Preferences. Then I selected 'Consolidate Library...' under the 'Advanced' menu. iTunes then automatically transferred all of my files over to the new drive, retaining all related information. It seems like an oversight or bug to not store this information with each MP3 file."

QuickTime Pro 6 and DVD Studio Pro A MacFixIt reader reports that a different installation order of QuickTime Pro 6 and DVD Studio Pro resulted in added output capabilities.

"I attempted to install DVD Studio Pro after installing QuickTime 6 Pro, which disabled MPEG-2 export. I then tried installing QuickTime 5 Pro, reinstalling DVD Studio Pro, and then installing QuickTime 6 Pro. Then I could have my cake and eat it too, having an export MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 playback in the same player."

.Mac renewal date Several users note that their .Mac one-year subscription starts immediately after sign-up (as noted in the .Mac FAQ), instead of after the trial period expires. John Huey writes:

"I thought that the subscription would begin on Oct 1 - after the trial period ends, but my profile says my renewal date is July, 2003. I guess if you sign up before Sept 30, you forfeit the free time."
