iPod Updater 1.2.6 re-appearing in Software UpdateYesterday, the iPod Software 1.2.6 Updater appeared in the automatic Software Update component on some systems (including our in-house Power Macintosh G4/733), even though the software was already installed.

Apple's Software Update application uses the Receipts directory (located inside your Library folder) in order to determine which applications need to be updated. While this could indicate some problem with the iPod Software Updater receipt, it is an innocuous bug and should not prove to be anything more than an annoyance.

The iPod 1.2.6 updater was originally released on March 14th.

Check your iPod cable A quick reminder to iPod owners - especially those with original 5 GB scroll-wheel models: If your iPod seems to be misbehaving, check the Firewire cable. MacFixIt reader Luther writes "I started having trouble which I thought was related to my Power Mac G4. I completely re-formatted and reset the iPod but to no avail. After reading a comment on your site about FireWire cables, I used another (very short) cable that I have and voila. Take care of your cables and if in doubt, replace."
