Gmail notifier for Mac OS X no longer working Several readers report that Gmail notifier for Mac OS X is no longer showing unread messages.

Google released an updated version of the notifier on March 21st, but users of both the old and new releases are reporting issues.

MacDraw Pro still works While this isn't exactly a troubleshooting matter, it's worth noting that MacDraw Pro -- one of the classic original Mac applications -- works again under the latest releases of Mac OS X 10.4.x.

MacFixIt reader Olaf writes:

"I'm one of these die hards who loves MacDraw Pro. For my needs, it's simply the best and simplest drawing program around that does everything that I need it to do. However, for a long time now it's been afflicted by a bug where the program could not save over an already existing copy of a document; instead, one always had to use "save as" and give the document a new name. (I've heard that this is because MacDraw Pro could not properly access file systems where the hard drive was larger than 2 GB.) Naturally, this is quite an ordeal when repeatedly saving a document to preserve little changes.

"But, this bug disappeared sometime with Tiger. Now I can happily save over existing documents without any problem. Moreover, it seems to be a proper save in that the file size doesn't creep up a la Microsoft "fast save" option. (The latter did occur on those extremely rare occasions under non-Tiger systems when MacDraw Pro could save over an existing document.)

"What are the odds of Apple (or other software companies) releasing the source code to unsupported software? As awkward as using Classic sometimes is, it still lets me use MacDraw Pro (and is pretty much the only reason why I still have Classic around; CricketGraph being the other). But, even this will be a thing of the past on the Intel Macs, which no longer support Classic programs. Although unlikely, it would be great if Apple would release the source code to MacDraw Pro and other unsupported software so that the community at least has the chance to update it to run with the latest operating systems."
