Odds and Ends: GarageBand still processor-hungry; Knowledge Base updates
GarageBand 1.1 still processor-hungry Reader Johan Skaneby notes that the recent GarageBand 1.1 update apparently didn't reduce GarageBand's proclivity for "hogging" CPU resources (noted here and here):
"Everyone know by now that GB hoggs alot more power than necessary. We all thought that this would be fixed with first update but no. A closer look at the GUI reveals that the horizontal level meters are the ones that takes a lot of processor power. Well, they don't in other Apple applications like Final Cut Pro. My suggestion is that the Garageband developer team buys the Final Cut Pro team a case of beer in exchange for the 'how to write level meters that don't take up 50% of processor power when active' secret."
