Epson USB 2.0 scanner issues resolved A MacFixIt reader lets us know that a previously existing condition with Epson USB 2.0 scanners has now been resolved by one, or perhaps a series, of factors:

"Just a follow-up to the articles from May and June of 20004 about Epson's USB 2.0 compatible scanners (specifically the 1670 and 3170 models) that ceased to function correctly any time classic was running in the background. (Error reported "scanner not found.")

"Some combination of the following changes appears to have fixed the problem for both of my clients who were experiencing the problem. First, we now use USB 2.0 PCI cards (or the built-in 2.0 ports on new G5 models), rather than the original USB 1.1 ports (built-in or PCI) on their previous G4 models. Second, we now have upgraded to certified USB 2.0 compatible cables. Third, Epson has updated their software (current version is 2.34), and fourth, the computers are now running OS X 10.3.

"I can't tell you which change(s) fixed the problem, but I can tell you that the problems are no longer an issue."
