Apple posts X11 tutorial Apple has posted a useful guide to configuring and running X11 (Unix) applications from within Mac OS X. As the tutorial explains, "The X Window System (more commonly called X11) on Mac OS X provides significant opportunities for Mac OS X developers. Based on the open source XFree86 project, X11 for Mac OS X is compatible, fast, and fully integrated with Mac OS X. It includes the full X11R6.6 technology including an X11 window server, Quartz window manager, libraries, and basic utilities such as xterm. Whether a Unix user or an X11 developer (or both), Mac OS X offers a platform where your applications can run without modification. On a Mac, any of the thousands of available X11 applications can run in a window running concurrently alongside iTunes, Microsoft Excel, and any other Cocoa, Carbon, or Java applications."

QuickBooks Pro 2005 conversion issue Reader Nigel Spier reports an issue with QuickBooks Pro 2005 when trying to convert a Windows QuickBooks file to Mac format:

"Very annoyed and frustrated. I recently upgraded to Quickbooks Pro 2005 because it is advertised as having greater cross platform ability in converting files between Mac and Windows to communicate with accountants etc. The first time I tried I get a 'Fatal error' message with undecipherable codes afterwords. Checked the QuickBooks message boards at Intuit and it seems this is a universal problem. I don't think it's a Mac problem."
