Odds and Ends: Adobe Reader 7.0 and SealedMedia files; Knowledge Base Updates
Adobe Reader 7.0 and SealedMedia files MacFixIt reader Lawrence Krupp notes that documents created with the "SealedMedia" digital rights management system are incompatible with the new release of Adobe Reader (7.0). He writes:
"My daughter is in graduate school (MBA) and recently purchased a license from the Harvard Business School to download and view a secure document using SealedMedia ( http://www.sealedmedia.com ) DRM protection. These documents show up with the suffix .spdf, as in document.spdf. You must download a SealedMedia Acrobat plugin to support these files. The gotcha is that Acrobat Reader 7.0 is not supported at this time. It only works with version 5 or 6 of Acrobat Reader.
"So, if you installed Acrobat Reader 7.0 and deleted older versions you are out of luck. We wound up using version 5 which I luckily found on my TI667 Powerbook. Finding earlier versions of Acrobat Reader to download is difficult to say the least. Adobe was quite efficient in making them disappear from the internet."
We've located one mirror for Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0.1, for MacFixIt readers who need to access SealedMedia documents. If you know of another source for either Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or 6.0, please let us know.
