Internet Explorer tip; Suitcase and TiBook RAM conflict; more PowerBook G3 wake from sleep: a fix Keith Bracknell writes: "I had a problem with waking from sleep after installing OS X 10.1.4 on a Wallstreet PowerBook. I thought that the machine was spinning up the hard drive, but not waking from sleep. However, after some more troubleshooting, I determined that the machine was actually awake but the backlight was off. I was able to fix the problem by booting into OS 9 and resetting the screen and sleep settings. I've been running with no problems since I did this two weeks ago." This confirms last week's similar report.

Sleeping PowerBooks that never wake up This Apple Discussions Thread suggests several possible solutions for fixing PowerBooks that refuse to wake from sleep. Karen Schroeder found an answer to her Wallstreet's wake from sleep glitch, which was caused by installing an IBM 20 GB TravelStar drive, on this page.

Updated Installer for ATI March 2002 Driver Update and 10.1.4 Steve Balel writes: "ATI has updated the installer to work with OS X 10.1.4. The previous installer was made for OS X versions up to 10.1.3 - and if run under 10.1.4 it didn't install all the driver files. The installer was the only part changed."

Internet Explorer tip Scott Lahteine writes: "Typing alphabetic characters in Internet Explorer (when the focus isn't in the address bar) selects the first link on the page that starts with the typed characters. For example, typing 'ma' on the MacFixIt home page highlights the MacFixIt logo at the top of the page, because the alt tag is 'macfixit...'" [We reported on this previously, as we now recall.] Jeffrey Jones adds: "It works in OmniWeb too."

Suitcase and TiBook RAM conflict David Hamono writes: "I am awaiting the return of my PowerBook 667 (Gigabit Ethernet) from the Apple service center. Under 10.1.4, the computer could not be restarted. It could shut down and reboot, but not restart. Evidently the problem is an interaction between Extensis Suitcase 10.1.2 and the 1 GB of installed RAM. I was told that if one of the 512 MB DIMMs was removed, the problem disappeared."

Apple certification program changes Michael Dinsmore writes: "The Apple certification program for Mac administrators was expanded recently. One can now register for the three classes in the Apple Certified System Administrator track that we haven't previously had access to. This means that there are now two certifications that can be acquired: the ACSA (Apple Certified Systems Admin), and the Apple Certified Technical Coordinator. Both share one course in common, but the ACTC is basically a boiled down version of the ACSA, as it condenses the three newly released courses into just one, Server Essentials.
