Toast and ISO disk images Following up on a previous item about Toast, a reader writes: "Adaptec Toast uses ISO format files for its disk images. I'm assuming Roxio is the same. This means you can make an image on the Mac and burn it on a PC (renamed with an .ISO extension, naturally). You can go the other way, too, but you have to twiddle the type/creator info to get Toast to recognize it." Another reader adds: "

iTunes 1.1 and Teac CD-W512EB 12x10x32x Erik Sundvall found a link to a hacked Authoring Support File that allows the Teac CD-W512EB 12x10x32x mechanism to work with iTunes 1.1. He writes: "I just finished burning a CD with iTunes 1.1 and it worked perfectly even while in the background." As always, we suggest caution when using software like this.

Kyocera Smartphone hot sync solutions Following up on a previous report of problems with a Kyocera Smartphone failing to sync properly, Ken Jurgensen writes: "Kyocera tech support helped a client of mine do the hot sync successfully using the following procedure: First, start the hot sync from the handheld, then go to the instant desktop icon on the desktop and choose the hot sync menu, then go to setup. As soon as the window opens, the hot sync starts." Another reader, Will Hansen, noted that he has been able to sync a Kyocera 6035 to a Ti G4 using the IrDA port without a hitch, suggesting perhaps that the problem lies with the USB connection.

Update: Consistent with what Ken reports, David Provine received these more detailed set of instructions from Kyocera:

    1. Place the phone in its sync cradle. [Serial Port Settings should have PalmConnect USB selected. Make sure the most current Palm Desktop for the Mac is installed. Make sure that current USB drivers are installed for the serial to USB converter.]
    2. Start the sync process, either by pressing the cradle button or using the HotSync application icon. Leave the process going.
    3. On the computer, click the Palm Desktop icon. It should appear as a green/gray calendar near the Finder.
    4. From the drop-down menu, select HotSync() -> Setup... The HotSync Software Setup screen will appear.
    5. Switch from the HotSync Controls tab to the Serial Port settings tab. The sync process should begin and proceed as normal.
