Odds & Ends: sleep confuses AIM; display problems; Cisco CBOS follow-up

CNET staff
Sleep confuses AIM Javier de Luis writes: "When the computer goes to sleep, you correctly appear as offline on any of your friend's buddy lists. The problem is that when you wake up your computer, you never come back online. Your status on your friend's list remains offline. Worse than that, AOL IM continues to appear to the user as if everything is fine. Even though the news ticker may be running, and ads may be appearing, you're actually not online. As a result, buddies that were online when you went to sleep still appear as being online, even though they may have logged off already. The only way to resolve this that I've found is to log off and then log on again."

Apple Studio Display 17: Popping or Cracking Sound KB article 88195 states: "An occasional popping or cracking sound comes from inside the monitor. This may be accompanied by a visible electrical discharge." If you have this symptom, contact Apple. Also see this MacFixIt Forums thread, Apple Studio Display 17 Pop-Dim-Zoom Problem. (Thanks, Michael Lowry and others.)

Cisco released CBOS 2.4.3: a follow-up Aric Swenson writes: "In response to your previous item on the Cisco CBOS update, I thought it might be useful to mention that the 2.4.3 update release notes are also now available."
