Retrospect and the Sony CRX140e: a follow-up Adding more details to his previous message, Gary Hobish writes: "I got a response from Dantz (who has been very helpful) with suggestions about disabling certain extensions, including Multi-User Startup (which I never use anyway),< various 3rd party CD drivers, etc, and Apple CD DVD extension v 1.4.7 (which is installed by 9.2.1). When I replied that I had none of these active, they suggested I disable Apple CD DVD extension v1.4.2 (the 9.1 version). This worked, but left me with another dilemma: it leaves only Toast CD Reader extension to run the CD-ROM, which makes the fix for 9.1 unusable in Virtual PC, because it needs the Apple CD driver."

Update: Dantz adds: "The Apple CD/DVD Driver 1.4.5 or later (included in Mac OS 9.2.1) is required for complete functionality of the SDAP Authoring Support extension."

Retrospect searchable CD-RW compatibility database We are not sure how new this item is, but we did not see it the last time we looked. Dantz has posted a searchable database for locating which versions of Retrospect support which CD-RW devices.

CarbonLib 1.4 and Drag and Drop to Action Menus Greg Webb writes: "I was able to restore drag and drop with Action Menus by having Conflict Catcher load CarbonLib before Action Files and Action Menus. Do not change the name of CarbonLib however, as that will break other programs that access it by name."

Update: Ken Marks writes: "I tried Greg's fix for the drag and drop problem with Action Menus and both CarbonLib 1.4 and 1.3.1. It works. It should be noted that changing the load order is not necessary with OS 9.2.1. The drag and drop works as it should."

iSub and USB hubs Roger Rodby writes: "Since 9.2.1, my iSub has been popping in and out within a song. I kept 9.2.1 but got the old Apple Audio Extension 1.2.2 from OS 9.1 (as suggested in MacFixIt), but then my iSub wasn't recognized in the sound control panel. I eventually found that I need to both the earlier version of the extension and to connect it directly to the iMac instead of though a USB hub." [See also this item.]

Update: Masashi Yanagisawa suggests: "I also started to have exactly the same problem upon upgrading to OS 9.2.1. At first, it seemed to be fixed by simply by connecting my iSub directly to the iMac, which has, I believe, been always recommended by Apple anyway. But it subseuquently returned."

Quicken 2002 securities list bug? Alwin Li writes: "It appears that whenever the number of securities in data file exceed about 750, Quicken may crash when opening the securities list and in some reports. (I tested several lists, 750 was okay, while 800 caused problems.) It only occurs with Mac OS 9.2 and Quicken 2002. Q2000 is fine, and Q2002 under Mac OS X is fine."

Update: Peter Albrecht adds: "Using OS 9.1, after installation of Quicken 2002, some of the Securities Detail History (price data and maybe other data) is lost."
