Logitech Mouseware X install glitch; more

Retrospect glitch with long file names John Vestal writes: "After an inquiry with Dantz, they confirmed that if Retrospect adds information about an icon from a file with a long name, it corrupts the retro.icons file and the program quits with no further information. It appears that not all long filenames will cause problems, and the only fix at present is to shorten any filenames that cause problems."

Logitech Mouseware X install glitch Jim Norwood writes: "I installed the Logitech Mouseware X Preference Pane onto my computer. After restart, the Logitech Control Center did not appear in my System Preferences. I hunted around and found the Preference Pane in ~/Library/PreferencePanes instead of /Library/PreferencePanes. After manually moving the file into the correct directory (after logging in as root) the preference pane appeared in the System Preferences normally."

Update: Evidently the install problem is not universal. Michelle Steiner writes: "I installed Logitech's Mouseware for OS X yesterday without a hitch. It appeared in the system preferences panel with no additional effort." We suspect the original report may have been triggered by a problem other than Logitech's installer.

More AT&T switchover problems Rick Robinson writes: "I suffered through the change-over in December and was down for 3 weeks. Finally, I got back up and running, and it has been great — virtually no service problems or downtime. However, yesterday all four of my email accounts stopped working and access to my Web pages associated with those accounts was blocked. I called AT&T customer service and learned that in order to move me from Excite@home to attbi last December they had to “rebuild” my account. I just learned that “rebuild” means “cancel and re-subscribe”. Without any kind of warning, notice, or permission from me, all my attbi accounts have been canceled! And, according to AT&T customer service, there is no way to retrieve or reinstate the email accounts I’ve been using nor is there a way to give me access to my Web site content."

Security Update causes print problems A reader writes: "After installing the latest security update to OS X 10.1.3, I lost the ability to print. I have a Epson 740i that was working fine before the update. After it, whenever I opened the print center app it would crash. I could not even print to PDF. Apple told me to delete the Canon folder in Library/Printers, which fixed the problem."

Iomega 3.5 can't read older cartridges Gregory Larsen reports that after installing the Iomega 3.5 software, older 100 MB ZIP carts we no longer recognized by his USB ZIP 250. After removing the software, the carts once again mounted on the desktop.

Update: Anthony Kassir and Paul MacLeod did not have this problem with an internal 250MB Zip drive.
