Star Wars Phantom Menace DVD subtitles: a follow-up Anthony Kyzer writes: "I don't have a dvd player in my mac, but, I do have a PSX2 DVD player. In response to the report on why the subtitles don't come up in certain sections of the movie Star Wars Episode 1, I found that you have to switch to subtitle track 4 in order to see the subtitles to the alien languages. Although it works, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense because I've never seen a movie where all the basic subtitles weren't in the first layer of subtitles."

Tip: curing Finder pauses A reader has sent us this tip to fix one potential cause of Mac Finder slowdowns. Chris Bailey writes: "If you have a Mac that's constantly "pausing" for long periods, especially when redrawing icons on the desktop, check the desktop picture setting. If you set a picture as the desktop, then delete that file without clearing the setting, the Mac will pause when redrawing the desktop because it's looking for a file that no longer exists."
