Distiller file size problem Joe Ligotti claims that PDF files created with Acrobat Distiller 4.0 are much larger than those created with Acrobat 3.02. For example, one file distilled with 3.02 was 152K in size; when distilled with 4.0, it was 2.2MB in size. Adobe Tech Support told him that they recognize this problem and are currently working on a fix. There were no projections as to when the fix would be available.

Update: Gary Polando notes: "This only happens when Acrobat 4 is set to 'version 4 only.' If you change the preferences to be compatible with version 3, the files sizes are much smaller."

The PDFzone also has an article on this subject.
