Odds & Ends: Macally iKey work-around; Save the PaperPort

Macally keyboard mouse freeze: a work-around Charles McMaster found that plugging his mouse into the iMac USB port, rather than the Macally iKey keyboard port, worked around the mouse freeze problem he was having. He plugged his printer (which had been connected to the iMac USB port) into the Macally port. All has worked well since.

Save the PaperPort! If you want to save your PaperPort from extinction as you move up to Mac OS 9 and beyond, you want to join or at least visit the PaperPort Preservation Society. Of special note, a posting on the site from ScanSoft (who now makes the PaperPort software) states "We are currently working to identify the [Mac OS 9] problems and to correct them if possible by the end of 1999." I have heard these promises before (see this item for one example) and remain skeptical but hopeful.
