Lombard USB fix coming? The PowerBook Zone claims that "it seems like USB is basically poorly implemented on the 'bronze' PBs, with total non-function of USB devices after a wake up from sleep." According to the report, Apple is already hard at work on a software fix.

PhotoPage and QuickTime conflict Joey Kennedy notes that PhotoPage conflicts with QuickTime 4.0. An error occurs when trying to scale a JPEG image into a thumbnail.

Update: Neil Ratzlaff reports not having this problem with PhotoPage.

HDT and SuperDisks: a follow-up Clarifying an item from last time, an FWB web page notes that while you cannot use Hard Disk ToolKit to format a SuperDisk, there are no "known compatibility issues with these removable drives" and hard drives formatted with HDT.

AOL and BCC email Last time, we mentioned a report of a problem sending a blind carbon copy (BCC) to AOL from Emailer. Several readers wrote to say that they have not had this problem. However, a couple of readers noted that AOL has a way for the user to prevent receiving BCCs as an anti-spam option; this may be the source of the "problem."

Update: A reply on the Emailer mailing list states: "I believe that AOL (and others) requires that at least one address on any email message be 'in the open,' that is, either 'To' or 'CC.'" (Thanks, Philippe Landau.)

Update: Scott Rose claims that regardless of the possible AOL restrictions, the problem seems restricted to Emailer. He has successfully send complete BCC messages to AOL from other email programs, including Outlook Express.

Disk Wizard "retired" The disk cataloguing utility, Disk Wizard, is no longer supported. For one thing, it cannot read StuffIt 5.0 archives. François Pottier, the author of the program, told reader Stan: "I don't have time to work on Disk Wizard any more. I am considering releasing it into the public domain, which would allow interested people to bring their own enhancements to it; but I haven't made a decision yet." The recently released Disk Recall 1.2 is a good alternative utility.

GlobalFax reposting: the explanation Regarding the withdrawal and reposting of GlobalFax 2.6.8 (noted here previously), we have been informed that the only difference between the two versions is some minor (legal-related) wording in the Read Me file.

GlobalFax and modem scripts: a tip Louie Berry installed the GlobalFax 2.6.8 update for his Platinum modem. He notes: "I couldn't for the life of me get it to discriminate between voice and fax. Eventually, I discovered that the links that point to "download the latest modem scripts for this modem" on several of the individual modem pages at GV's site have not been updated. They still give you scripts for ARA 2.x. However, if you go to the Script Locator page, there's a multitude of scripts for several modems written for ARA 3.x. With the correct script, it now works.

Asante Ethernet Card goof? Nope. Reader Evan writes: "We ordered some Comm Slot Ethernet cards from Asante. When we opened the boxes we discovered that all of the cards were backwards. Yes backwards! The RJ-45 jack is facing the to the inside of the machine not to the back of the machine."

Update: Breen Mullins of Asante replies: "Your correspondent is attempting to put the Asante CommSlot card into a CommSlot II, which is found in PCI Macs. The Asante card is designed to fit a regular CommSlot. If you install it in the slot it's designed for, it will fit as expected."
