Software Update install failures; more

Keyspan Adapter issue Mark Gabriele informs us that Keyspan drivers for OS 9 and OS X for the USB Twin Serial Adapter "do not peacefully coexist." They can cause a crash that requires a "hard" restart in OS X - if you launch Classic (and thus load the OS 9 drivers). The fix is simply to uninstall the drivers from one OS or the other. A reply from Keyspan more-or-less confirmed this conclusion: "The driver for the Adapter should not be installed on both platforms."

Update: Tom Neveu found that this problem can occur even with just the OS X version installed. The solution is to remove the driver software from the System/Library/Extensions folder. See also previous related coverage on MacFixIt.

Can't update, install An Apple Discussions Board thread begins: "If I attempt to download any software, such as an update to OS X 10.1.4, as just one example, the .pkg attempts to install, and the installer dies." Replies confirm others with the same symptom (although clearly it is not one shared by all OS X users). No clear solution was provided. (Thanks, Robert Lindsay.)

Microtech downloads Microtech has a Downloads page that includes OS X drivers for several of its products - including CameraMate and Zio! products. Matt Lepkowski found that the driver for the ZiO! also worked with a similar product called Dazzle (for which there are no officially posted OS X drivers). See also this previous related coverage.

Mac OS 9: Acrobat and LaserWriter 300 Richard Outerbridge found that Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 (unlike Acrobat 4.0.5) in Mac OS 9 would not print to his Apple LaserWriter 300. We have previously noted a similar issue between Acrobat and HP LaserJet printers.

Update: The solution that worked for Dennis Henley was to use the AdobePS driver.
