IE5 cache and RAM disks tip A user found a trick for insuring Internet Explorer would remember the cache was stored on a RAM disk after IE refused to keep the changed preference. Kirk Fuller writes: "I found that by simply locking the Web Browser UI file in the Internet Explorer 5 Preference Panels folder, it would retain any changes you had made in the cache location portion of IE. First open Internet Explorer and change your cache file location settings, then just find the Web Browser UI file and lock it. IE doesn't even have to be closed when you do this."

VectorWorks 9 and Firewire 2.5 conflict? E.J. Armstrong writes: "The new VectorWorks 9 is very unstable when used with Firewire 2.5 and a Sonnet Tango PCI FW/USB card. The crashes will be sudden and Type 1 for "make animation" and Type 11 for the Object Libraries. Disabling the Firewire 2.5 extension returns full functionality to the program. I don't know if it is the PCI Driver or FW 2.5 or VectorWorks 9." We are not sure if updating to the latest version of FireWire will fix this problem.

Update: Leslie Javorek replies: "Contrary to this report, I've been using VectorWorks 9 for several months now (as a beta tester and with the final release) and have not encountered a single problem traced back to the FireWire 2.5 upgrade - nor has there been any mention of this from any of the other beta testers that I've been aware of. Based on reports from multiple beta-testers, may I suggest that your original contributor look into what versions they're using of OpenGL, as older versions of these had been reported to cause sporadic problems. It is also well-documented that the suite of drivers and extensions associated with the ATI Rage 128 often conflict with themselves as well as with other Apple and 3rd party extensions."
