Internet Connect failure and work-around Richard Kriss has been having problems with Internet Connect in OS X not working (failure to detect a dial tone and/or a lack of response to clicking the Connect button). The modem works fine when booting in OS 9. In his case, reinstalling the OS X software via a backup he had created with Carbon Copy Cloner solved the problem. Otherwise, the solution may require reinstalling OS X. Postings he has seen online suggest that the cause is a corrupted Unix kernel. We cannot confirm this.

Update: Selwyn Hollis writes: "I too have this Internet Connect problem. For me, quitting and restarting Internet Connect solves the problem temporarily. It seems I get one connection each time. Then the connect button it won't respond." We doubt this will be the solution for all cases, but it is worth a shot. We have previously noted this work-around.

Update: Russell Hobbie adds: "I, too, had this symptom. Just for the heck of it, I tried to connect using the Internet Connect icon in the Menu Bar. It worked."

Illustrator glitch work-around Michael Go writes: "I started having Illustrator 10.0.1 suddenly quit on me during the launch process while it was doing its automatic web update process (I'm using Mac OS X 10.1.4). I reinstalled from scratch and updated it again. Same problem. I checked the Adobe Forums. It turns out I'm not the only one having this problem all of a sudden. The problem is with Adobe Online Manager. Going to /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/ and deleting the Web folder did the trick."

OmniOutliner bug? Since upgrading to the just-released OmniOutliner 2.0.1, all of Bohdan Zachary's outliner files are now Read Only. We have no other reports of this as yet.

Update: Guy Harris had the same problem. He received this reply from Omni on the matter. "There was an expiring license that came with (the "free") OmniOutliner 2.0 beta, which is why you may not have noticed that the old license would not work in this new version."
