Odds & Ends: iMovie sound sync tip; ATM Light and WorldScript conflict

CNET staff
Tip: iMovie sound sync and older Macs Paul Christensen writes: "Recently, I encountered serious problems when exporting Movies to my DVCam: the sound would periodically stutter and get out of synch. The synch would be lost anywhere from a few frames to 30 seconds. I found that if you set the 'Playback' preferences in iMovie to Smoother Motion (lower quality video), the sound is perfectly synchronized all the time. It seems that with the 'Better Image Quality' set, my onboard ATI Rage II can't keep up."

ATM Light 4.6.2 conflict? A reader reports that ATM Light 4.6.2 doesn't work on OS 9.1 with Hebrew enabled because it conflicts with WorldScript. Another reader had the same pronblem, although noting that there was no conflict with the Cyrillic (Russian) language kit.

Update: We seem to keep returning to this issue. We posted info on this matter back in April and again last October.

William Kucharski adds: "Adobe has stated before that ATM Light and Deluxe later than 4.6 (e.g. 4.6.1 and above) do not work with QuickDraw GX or WorldScript because Apple told them not to bother supporting GX anymore. I can't imagine they would go back and try to separate the WorldScript issues from the GX issues, and since ATM will die with MacOS 9, I suspect the answer will remain if you need ATM and GX or WorldScript you will need to run MacOS 9.0.4 and ATM Light or Deluxe version 4.6."
