iMovie 2.0.2 coming A reader who just received his 733MHz Power Mac G4 found this note in the Read Me file for iDVD: "Get the updated version of iMovie 2.0.2 for better performance." Trouble is, iMovie 2.0.2 is not out yet. Looks like a new version of iMovie will be released soon.

Region glitch in DVD Player 2.3? Thomas Perrier found that Apple DVD Player failed to play certain multi-region rented DVD movies. He eventually determined that the problem was that the DVD drive (an external Hitachi GD-7500, 12/40) had not had a region set. He downgraded to DVD Player 2.2. When he ran this version, a dialog box appeared asking for a region to be set. He did so. He then returned to DVD Player 2.3, which now works correctly. [See also this TIL article.]

AirPort problem with new PowerBook G4s? Jon Taylor notes a potential problem with AirPort and the new PowerBook G4s: "When my friend transferred his AirPort card from his old PowerBook to his new PowerBook G4, the AirPort's range dropped to 50ft with a near line of site. We've tested with 2 different Base Stations and have the same bad performance." He contacted Apple about this and they are investigating it. Two other PB G4 owners have now confirmed this problem.

QuickTime 5 Public Preview: Sound Manager or QuickTime Alerts at System Startup Time Consistent with our previously posted advice, TIL article #60801 simply states that you "should install a later version of QuickTime 5 if the Public Preview version installed on your computer expires.

25 minutes to startup In this MacFixIt Forums thread, a reader discovers that the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect extension was the cause of a 25 minute delay at each startup. Clearly, this does not happen to all users; we are not sure what determines if and when you will be hit by this.

iTunes and Speakable Items conflict? Gregg Radell reports that, with Speakable Items enabled in the Speech control panel, his Mac would freeze when launching iTunes. Apple Tech Support duplicated the freeze when he called them about this.
