New cooling fans on faster G4s The new 677 and 733 G4's now have a plastic shroud around the processor(s) and a small box-fan that blows air out near the FireWire ports. (Thanks, Scott Boettcher.)

Disc Burner and FAXstf conflict? Bruce Dillingham writes "After installing Disc Burner, FAXstf (version 5.11) refuses to run properly. The error indicates that STFInit extension could not load the file ACD1.DRVR, even though it is present. Re-installing the fax software did not help."

Update: Allan Andrews had a similar conflict, which he attributed to Epson software: "When I installed Epson Stylus Update 1.0cEs to printer driver v.5.5DE, and then started up my iMac, the ACD1.DRVR driver file would not load. I finally decided to remove the FAXstf software and live without it." [See also this previous item.]

Update: Danny Rosin adds: "I had the same problem with my FAXstf 3.2.5. I had bought the upgrade a while ago, but never had the need to use it - until now. I installed version 5, and upgraded to 6.0.5 (free), and the conflict gone."

Update: Patrick Hilferty suggests: "I have seen that error before. If the burner isn't powered up on startup, the error doesn't appear. It's dumb, but it seems to work."

Radeon PCI and GlobalFax conflict The PCI Radeon card version 1.1.1 drivers appear to conflict with GlobalFax 2.6.8. in a somewhat obscure way. Christopher Veres writes, "When acceleration is on with the 1.1.1 Radeon drivers, attempting to view or edit a GlobalFax cover sheet will cause an immediate system freeze, but only if the cover sheet is open in a full size window. It is possible to edit a cover sheet as long as you do not click the zoom window box to open a full sized window. The other workaround is to turn off hardware acceleration with the ATI pulldown menubar widget."
