FAXstf and Acrobat 5 conflict A reader sent us this note about problems with Acrobat 5 and FAXstf written by Smith Micro tech support: "We have tested this and it seems to be an incompatibility between FAXstf and Acrobat 5, specifically Acrobat 5's printing mechanisms. The problem is created by an interaction between both programs, and isn't solely the fault of one or the other. Our developers are working on the problem and hope to have a fix available in a future update. In the meantime, if you need to fax a PDF, we suggest using Acrobat 4.x." Also see our previous coverage on this issue.

BBEdit 6.01 and DAVE If you try to copy a file to a mounted PC share, it will generate a -5000 permissions error. The fix is to upgrade to BBEdit 6.1. Bare Bones informed Thursby: "We have worked around this issue in 6.1 but you may want to fix this in DAVE in any event to prevent the same problem from cropping up in other applications."

Adaptec 2930CU ROM update Brian Bard writes: "Adaptec is now shipping new ROM chips to fix the sleep problem with 2930CU cards. The upgrade also improves compatibility with OS X. To order the new ROM, you'll need your TSID. It takes patience and finesse to install. The ROMs are very hard to get in and out and you can't just pry them out with a screwdriver, that'll destroy the board."
