Apple European time server incorrect Several users have reported that Apple's time server in Europe is delivering the incorrect time. One user noted specifically that the time was off by 7 and 1/2 hours, and a second user found the pointing to the Asian-located server worked just fine. (Thanks, Chris Payne and Chris Laurie.)

Update: Several users note that the server is presently correct. We presume the problem was fixed, as the problem reports were received over the weekend.

Update: Wayne Barker suggests an alternative to Apple's time server: time.nist.gov.

Microsoft Exchange Server doesn't exchange Mac attachments? A reader writes: "When I receive an e-mail with the current versions of Netscape or Eudora, but am unable to download some attachments, which often -- but not exclusively -- include< various types of Office documents. It appears to occur only with Mac to Mac email messages, via the Exchange Server, where the IMAP protocol is used on the receiving end. The only workarounds appear to be to use Netscape 4.08 for a mail client, or use the beta version of Outlook. I believe that what is happening is Exchange is not handing MIME attachments properly."

Finding Apple Software Downloads via KnowledgeBase Michael Masella notes a technique for searching Apple Software Downloads in their KnowledgeBase. Use the Expert Search feature, and use the keyword 'kbdload.' Also see previous for changes to the ASU site. Another reader notes that there have been problems since the switch to the KnowledgeBase server. In several instances the server has gone offline, and when online, he notes that searches for well-known files can come up empty, or that there are problems logging on. Steve Link writes: "When I try to do text searches using the exact words in the name of the software I am looking for (e.g., 'DVD Player'), I often get no results. However, after extensive searches by other means, I can eventually find the software that I had earlier typed into the search field. The Apple technician said that it was better to use the advanced search and to type in some phrase to force it to look only for certain types of updates. What a waste of time."

Norton FileSaver and Epson 777 print driver conflict? Anthony Anselmo writes: "I kept having a problem with my Epson 777 printer where the system would not print, even if I reselected the printer in the Chooser. It appears as if the System file became corrupt, although I'm not sure exactly why. However, I found that the solution was to replace the System 'suitcase' file, and disable Norton FileSaver."
