EndNote 4 and MathType bug Andrew Stewart writes: "When Command-6 is used to produce an unformatted document any MathType equations are destroyed. This did not happen with EndNote 3. I was told by EndNote Mac technical support that this is a known issue, and they suggested that users should be able to remove the field codes selectively by highlighting all text except the equations and using Command-6 for a workaround."

Photoshop bug with remote files on a Unix server? Homero Contreras writes: "We have had intermittent problems with Photoshop 6 failing to open files located on our Unix-based (IRIX SGI Origin) file server. Photoshop reports that the file could not be found. Also, attempting to save open files sometimes generates a file not found error, often followed by an unexpected quit. Relaunching Photoshop does not fix the problem, however, trashing the Photoshop preferences file does, at least temporarily. I've seen a brief mention of similar problems on Adobe's site."

Update: Adobe replies: "The customer in question is running Xinet FullPress OPI software and K-AShare fileserver -- the customer is at least 3 updates behind the current software version, and may have missed a critical IRIX update as well. This information has been available on the Xinet web site for quite some time.

There are other outstanding problems that customers are encountering with Photoshop 6 and some fileservers -- but the problems are not easily reproducable and not very common. These appear to be related to AppleShare software or (in at least one confirmed case) bad network routers. In some cases the customers have solved the problem by disabling the Async I/O plugin (which forces Photoshop to revert to purely synchronous I/O calls). We are still investigating these problems."

AppleWorks 6.1.2 and FAXstf 6.05 conflict Thomas Maler writes: "AppleWorks 6.1.2 and FAXstf 6.05, (the versions bundled with the new iBooks) don't get along under Mac OS 9.1 using a Powerbook G4/500 . When trying to bring up the fax dialog within AppleWorks, (holding the keyboard shortcut while selecting Fax form the File menu) causes either a freeze or a type 1 or 2 bomb. Using AppleWorks 5 works around the problem." (Also see our recent coverage of FAXstf one and two.)
