CD-ROM ToolKit Type 3 error confirmed by FWB Regarding our previous coverage of CD-ROM ToolKit and Mac clones, Dick Mead writes: "The CDT application quits with a Type 3 error during the initial startup bus scan of my PowerTower Pro. It does this when it hits the TurboMax PCI-IDE card where my boot drive is located. I went back to CDT 3. FWB says they were able to duplicate the problem and are working on a fix."

AIM 4.0 Chat glitch Eric Dickmann was having problems using AIM 4.0's Chat feature in Mac OS 9. AOL replied: "Actually, the problem you are seeing is not 9.0 related. It is just a coincidence. AOL made changes to the host end on the IM form, and that is causing the current erratic behavior. If you send an IM at the same moment you are receiving an IM, you will see the double text."

Update: Reader Madeline replies: "This is not just an AIM glitch - it affects AOL users too. In addition to this difficulty, the host problems have also caused a lot of AOL users to be without IM sounds - that familiar ring that lets you know you have an IM. I have this with both AOL 3 and AOL 4. I was told by one of the AOL techs that AOL is working on the problem."

USB Card Support 1.3.5 and Macally USB Card conflict? Adding to our previous coverage, George Cole could not get Apple USB Card Support 1.3.5 and Macally PCMCIA USB Card to work together. "Installed the software, and rebooted. Plugged in a USB keyboard and mouse and got no response from the system for 10 seconds, then kaboom super hard crash."

Update: Reader reaction to this has been mixed. Some confirmed the problem while a few said they were able to get the Macally card to work. A few also reported success with the Keyspan card.

Vimage and Xclaim conflict? Michael Cucka believes there is a conflict between his Xclaim VR 128 card and his Vimage G3 card. He writes: "After installing the VR128, my Mac locked up during startup at the time the Vimage VPower extension appeared on screen. I found that I could only boot my Mac with the VPower extension disabled - or if I pulled the VR128 and reinstalled my previous XClaim VR (Rage Pro)."

IntelliMouse and CDW drive conflict? Fredrik Tamm writes: "I just bought the Microsoft IntelliMouse (USB). After installation, Adaptec Toast USB 3.8 claims that my CDW drive 'can't be found.' If I disable the IntelliMouse control panel (IntelliPoint) all is fine. I'm running Mac OS 9."
