CarbonLib and drag-and-drop problem with MacPotrait confirmed Regarding reported drag-and-drop problems with CarbonLib, David Oberst writes: "I use the MacPortrait software along with my old Portrait Pivot 1700 display. This display driver has somewhat broken under CarbonLib 1.3.1 and the new 1.4GM, in that when you do drag and drop of items in Finder to spring-loaded folders, the opening folder doesn't initially draw, and when you then drag the item around, you see the display gradually redraw underneath the mouse pointer. MacPortrait says: 'Our engineers are aware of the issue and are currently working on a solution. Unfortunately, we do not have a date of fix at the moment.'"

mac.com password errors? We have received several reports in the last 48 hours of authentication/password failures with mac.com. It appears to come and go. Hopefully, it is fixed now.

More Software Update oddities We continue to get reports of minor glitches with Apple's Software Update control panel. For example, Dennis Chesters writes: "It correctly suggested the Theater Mode update, but it suggested version 1.0, instead of the current version 2.0.3, to replace the old version 2.0.1."

New Drive Setup driver version? David Atkinson writes: A new iMac came preinstalled with version 3.2.6 of the ATA driver (as indicated in the Get Info window of the hard disk icon). But when I launched Drive Setup version 2.0.7 (which came with the new iMac) and then updated the driver and rebooted, the version was updated to 3.2.7. [Another reader found it was updated to 3.2.8. Yet another reader reports that his new iBook came with 3.2.8 already installed.]
