Disk on Key a Weapon?

Privoxy installation follow-up With regard to yesterday's item concerning a reader's inability to properly install Privoxy (a local proxy tool to filter out banner ads and manage cookies), Charles Maurer notes that a new version has been posted with a fix:

"I've re-packaged 2.9.14 to kill a couple of birds with one stone: it is now relocatable (still defaults to /Applications/Privoxy.app) and should have all the chmod's necessary to run without incident," writes the tool's developer.

Privoxy 2.9.14-2 can be downloaded from SourceForge.

Base Station rescue BaseStationRescue.com is offering an $80 repair for users who have broken AirPort base stations that are out of warranty. The repair process replaces two capacitors in the power supply that burn out, but may not universally mend defunct Base Stations.

The company offers a 90 warranty on its repairs and offers a refund of all but $5 of the labor price if it cannot fix a Base Station.

iTunes MIDI support Regarding our previous coverage of iTunes' ability to play MPEG 4 files through QuickTime 6, Evan Evanson notes that the software can also organize and play MIDI files.

"Just use the 'Add to Library' command to inform iTunes of where they are, and you can make MIDI playlists galore. It's pretty slick for musicians who do MIDI on Macs and it's even sweeter on OS X, where you can use SoundFont files instead of QuickTime instruments, to make the playback even nicer."

Users can enable SoundFont files by a dragging them into "/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks", and making them the default in the "Music" tab of the QuickTime System Preference pane.

Disk on Key a weapon? Kenneth M. Wong says that security at the Houston airport confiscated his Disk On Key removable storage device (manufactured by M-Systems) because it was deemed contraband.

"They thought it was some type of weapon, and all the arguing in the world could not get it back."
