Adaptec SCSI 2906 drive update fixes sleep glitch Luis Gavilan writes: "I was having problems with my G4 867 with OS 9.2.1 where the unit would freeze after a deep sleep. The cause appears to be the version 1.2 driver that came with the card. I grabbed version 1.3 from the Adaptec Web page and it solved the problem with my setup.

Zip disks unsupported as boot disk in 9.2? Lisa Koehler writes: "I recently updated from OS 9.2.1 to 9.2.2. In trying to create a bootable Zip Rescue Disk using Zip tools, I had no problem copying the Minimal System folder onto the Rescue Disk and blessing the System Folder. Problem is, when going to Startup Disk control panel, the Rescue Disk shows up in the list of choices, but I am unable to select it. As a result I can't boot from this disk. Iomega says that 9.2 is incompatible with Zip disks. However, the same technique worked fine in 9.2.1.

Update: Patricio Mason adds: "After upgrading to 9.2.2, my own Zip Rescue Disk - also created using Zip Tools - ceased to work with my 500 MHz PowerMac G4. Yet, the very same disk works perfectly with my 600 MHz iMac at home -which is also running 9.2.2. However, in both cases the disk cannot be selected in the Startup Disk control panel. I hold the Option key at startup in order to manually select a boot drive. It just so happens that this works on the iMac but not the G4.

Update: Roy Caratozzolo III writes: "It works better if the disk in inserted after the Mac is powered up. This is what I do: Select the drive in Startup Disk control panel, shut down, eject the disk, hit the power button, and pop the disk back in when the gray screen appears (but before the Happy Mac is displayed)." This work-around is probably model-specific, suggesting to us that it might work for other users depending on the particular hardware involved.

Patricio Mason replies: "In offering his work-around, Roy seems not to have noticed that - as the original poster and myself noted - what lies at the heart of the issue is that the Zip disk can no longer be selected in the Startup Disk control panel!"
