Acrobat reader printing problems: a fix John Moore writes: "I found a solution to a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 crashing when starting the print command. I had two copies of the application - one in the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder, and one in the OS X Applications folder. Double clicking on a PDF while booted under OS 9 was launching the copy of Acrobat located in the OS X Applications folder. Also, double clicking on some PDFs while booted into OS X was launching the same copy of Acrobat, but under Classic environment. Every time I tried to print, the application crashed. By making sure I opened the copy of Acrobat located in the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder, my problems went away." It's also possible to delete the copy in the Mac OS 9 apps folder. Since Acrobat Reader 5 is Carbonized, there is really no reason to keep more than one copy anyway.

Quicken check printing fix Jay Luke writes: "After much frustration with Quicken tech support, I learned that I had to move the file Quicken Quotes from the Essentials folder in order to restore my ability to print checks, after updating to Quicken 2002."

Beige G3 Desktop sleep induced freeze: a fix Emery Emery writes: "I just set up a Beige G3 Desktop with OS 9.2.1 and discovered that the sleep function was freezing the computer. Regardless of whether it was activated by the timer or the drop down menu, sleep caused a freeze. The culprit appears to be the Apple CD-ROM/DVD extension. Replacing it with the Apple CD-ROM extension from OS 8.1 seems to have fixed the problem.

Following up on our recent coverage about this issue, Allen Cronce has developed a small application that he believes may fix a related problem with incorrect disk partitions. MacInTouch has more. Running and making repairs with DiskWarrior fixed these hassles for a MacFixIt reader.

Sony DPP-SVxx driver follow-up Previously we reported that the Mac OS 9.2.1 compatible driver for these units was only available in the Japanese language. However, an astute reader found additional drivers, including an English language version, on the Sony Europe website. Although the drivers are slated for 9.1, Snorri Gylfason found it also works under 9.2.1.
