Odds & Ends

a. GoMac 1.1 is the new update to this utility that gives you a Windows-like Program Bar and Start Menu. The GoMac FAQ file claims that this new version fixes the problem with recalibration on AppleVision monitors (noted here previously), among its other fixes. However, the MRP notes that some problems still remain.

b. Norton Utilities 3.5 The update is officially out. 'Nuff said.

c. XclaimTV is great! I recently got the XclaimTV accessory to go with the XclaimVR card. This may turn out to be the tail that wags the dog. If having a TV on your Mac appeals to you, XclaimTV is reason enough to purchase a VR card. It works great and its loaded with features (including closed captioning). I have not had a single problem with it since I installed it.

d. Maximum volume: one solution Lois & Dick Richards write that the cause of their Mac repeatedly moving its volume level to maximum was After Dark 4.0: "Every time the screen-saver activates, the sound output setting in the 7.6.1 Monitors & Sound Control Panel gets reset to the maximum value." This problem has been reported before and appears still not to be fixed.
