Kaleidoscope and DoubleScroll conflict The reader who initially reported the freeze when using Kaleidoscope (mentioned last time) claims to have isolated the cause: it is a conflict with DoubleScroll. Disable DoubleScroll and the Kaleidoscope problem disappears. Another reader confirmed this. As Kaleidoscope 2.0 reportedly includes a double scroll option, this conflict should not present much of a problem.

20th Anniversary buzz Regarding the problem with a buzzing sound from 20th Anniversary Macs (mentioned last time), Brian Paloski writes that he has had this problem with avariety of subwoofers. He contacted Bose about it and they suggested "buying one of those 3-prong to 2-prong electrical outlet converters and put it on the power cord." It worked for him.

Even number volume squeal We previously reported that certain Macs running Mac OS 8.1, especially 62xx Performas, had a squealing sound at startup that only occurred when the volume was set to an even number. James Reed writes that he received word from Apple that confirms this odd symptom. Setting the volume to an odd number is a work-around. Further, "Apple engineering had isolated the cause and was working on a fix (no time frame yet)."

Update: Apple now has a TIL file on this issue.

Now Utilities delay? Gregg Pearlman writes that someone at Qualcomm told him that release of the Mac OS 8.1 compatible upgrade for Now Utilities had been delayed until the fourth quarter.
