GoMac and Default Folder conflict? Charles Baldwin reports a conflict between GoMac 1.5v3 and Default Folder 2.9.1 on his G3 Mac running Mac OS 8.1. The symptom was a Type 10 Finder crash at startup. He resolved the problem by changing the loading order of the extensions (wit h Conflict Catcher) so that Default Folder loaded after GoMac. [There may be more going on here, as two readers reported not having this conflict.]

Virex floppy disk size glitch Sergio Barrozo Netto got the Virex upgrade for VirusScan owners. However, he was unable to get the Disk 2 file to fit on a floppy disk. Network Associates Online Support wrote back "There is a problem with the way we are stuffing the file right now. We are trying to fix this issue right now. The file is presently too big to fit on a floppy diskette so we need to shrink it back to its size 1200K. Hopefully we will have this fixed by Monday or Tuesday."

DVD in a G3 Apple reportedly has quietly introduced a new 300MHz G3 Mac (M6715LL/A) that includes a 2xDVD drive. It has "hardware enabled" full DVD-Video playback functionality. Street prices is estimated at $2000.

PB G3 series running hot Last week's New York Times had an article on G3 series PowerBooks running too hot to remain on your lap. On the plus side, this not been associated with any failures of the units.
