Audio Catalyst 2.0: a follow-up Last time, we noted James Steele's problem with downloading Audio Catalyst 2.0 from Beyond.com. Both James and Beyond.com now confirm that this problem is fixed. However, James adds a note about the software itself: "When you encode a stereo AIFF file, it reverses the left and right channels. I have verified this by listening to the AIFF source file and processing with both MPecker and AudioCatalyst."

Getting the Olympus 32MB Upgrade info We received several emails from readers unable to locate the information about the 32MB Smart Media upgrade for Olympus cameras (mentioned here last time). The announcement is there. For example, once you load the page, click on the URL for the D-600L. Near the top of the page will be a banner that says "32 MB SmartMedia Upgrade." If you click on it, it will download a PDF file with all the info. Here's the direct URL.

Mac OS 8.6 and PPC only install glitch? Will O'Neal claims that attempting to install PPC-only versions of certain software fails when running Mac OS 8.6. Installing the fat version works. Illustrator 7.0.1 and Photoshop 4.0.1 were two examples of programs that had this problem.

Aladdin and Free Drive Offer 20MB of storage on the Internet Aladdin Systems has "partnered with FreeDrive to create the Aladdin Systems FreeDrive, which is a free, password-protected 20 MB Internet hard drive that you can use to store, retrieve, distribute, and back up your data (any file type)."

To get this access, the Terms of Service state: you must "agree to receive 1 weekly promotional e-mail message." (Thanks, Scott Teresi.)

Mac OS X Sever on new PowerBooks not supported Gary Morris informs us that Apple told resellers at a meeting this week that Apple does not officially support running Mac OS X Server from the new PowerBooks.

Adobe Illustrator 8.01 is out. Among its fixes: "In Mac OS 8.5.x, accessing preferences no longer causes random crashes. Large placed or linked EPS files do not retain memory." [Several readers now report that update file is no longer available. It will inevitably return. In the mean time, Roger Connelly still found them at Adobe's Japanese site.]
